Zuck Already Got Your Permission and Does Not Care

I posted this on my Facebook after seeing (again) a bunch of those “I don’t give Facebook permission to…” posts that mean absolutely nothing.

To be fair I’m pretty sure I only learned this after being burned by posting something similar myself.

The place is what it is. I want to delete my account at least three times a week, either after a ridiculous ban or a whole bunch of folks doubling down on things that I KNOW they should know better about (yeah, I know, the word “should”). I also can get into “whiny victim” mode when I get frustrated over posts that mean something to me like offers and deep, vulnerable content getting ignored over some snarky meme that I posted because it’s stupid or funny.

Note that I am not a fan of censorship, even from complete garbage that can be debunked in 45 seconds of a Google search. In fact, I think censorship only validates a lot of crap that people used to be able to see right through not so long ago. The censorship taps into the emotions and the fear spaces and sends people down ridiculous rabbit holes. Emotionally wound up people stay on Facebook for longer and are going to see and interact with more ads and content that keep them in that space and profit is made, which is all that matters to Zuck and Co. — doesn’t make them any different than most capitalists but that’s the game. When we’re not paying, we’re what’s for sale. That’s how this works. We’re worth more when we’re angry, offended, feel like we’re being silenced and in our rage interchanging communism and fascism (please, fricking STOP THAT and learn the difference from someplace other than propaganda for the love of all that is holy!)

Anyway, apparently I seem to keep venting and not actually sharing the damn post, so I’ll be quiet and drop it:

Okay, we need to talk about this again. I’ve seen this pop up like 12 times on my feed and despite my knowing the odds of anyone listening is close to zero because being offended and outraged is a lot more fun for the ego…I’m cranky and I’m going here anyway.

I’m not here to call people out or make them feel stupid, I’m here to educate. Maybe one person learns something before the algorithms eat this. That’s a win.

1. This is fake.

2. This is not a public forum and the 1st Amendment does not apply here. Just like your job.

3. We are what’s being sold here, which is why we get pounded with all the different crap we do and how we’re becoming programmed into balls of outrage hellbent on destroying each other. We’re all played. I don’t care how “woke” or whatever you think you are. They got you, they got me. If I wasn’t trying to build something I’d be long gone. I don’t have that option.

4. Those terms of service we didn’t read say that they can do whatever they want with any of our stuff. We get connection, Zuck gets our data. That’s how this works.

5. Posting “I don’t give permission…” Right. Zuck’s lawyers look at those and laugh.

6. Channel 13 News? I thought we decided that we didn’t believe the news…oh wait, that’s only the part we don’t like. Kids, question the crap you like for the love of all that’s holy already. Your “team” lies too. YOUR. TEAM. LIES. TOO. We’re f***ed until we learn this.

If we really don’t give permission, the only way to do that is to take our ball and go home. The vast majority of us aren’t going to do that. No judgment, not like I’m leaving-I’m here being a crank right now.

But maybe the thing is to just understand that what we say and what we share on here, even in groups or messages, isn’t in a sacred secure space, despite the best intentions of those who open them, including myself.

I hate saying this because so much of what I build is around people feeling safe about taking their space and speaking their heart over regurgitating some crock of crap that fires off all our emotions into a blind rage. But be aware of where you’re putting it.

The odds are really low that your parents won’t see it if you post in spaces where they can’t but the odds are sky high that you’re being bought, sold and programmed in cyberspace. and some database knows you better than you know yourself.

Anyway, this is an example. Again, if you posted this or anything similar I’m not meaning to call you out or make you feel stupid. It looks scary and it’s designed to hit those emotions. I might have even posted stuff like this myself in the past-I’m too lazy to look. This is how we learn. This space is what it is but we can make it work FOR us even with the BS. Anyway, below is an example:

“Don’t forget tomorrow starts the new Facebook rule where they can use your photos. Don’t forget Deadline today!!! It can be used in court cases in litigation against you. Everything you’ve ever posted becomes public from today Even messages that have been deleted or the photos not allowed. It costs nothing for a simple copy and paste, better safe than sorry. Channel 13 News talked about the change in Facebook’s privacy policy. I do not give Facebook or any entities associated with Facebook permission to use my pictures, information, messages or posts, both past and future. With this statement, I give notice to Facebook it is strictly forbidden to disclose, copy, distribute, or take any other action against me based on this profile and/or its contents. The content of this profile is private and confidential information. The violation of privacy can be punished by law (UCC 1–308- 1 1 308–103 and the Rome Statute. NOTE: Facebook is now a public entity. All members must post a note like this. If you prefer, you can copy and paste this version. If you do not publish a statement at least once it will be tacitly allowing the use of your photos, as well as the information contained in the profile status updates. DO NOT SHARE. Copy and paste.

Their new algorithm chooses the same few people — about 25 — who will read your posts. Therefore,

Hold your finger down anywhere in this post and “copy” will pop up. Click “copy”. Then go your page, start a new post and put your finger anywhere in the blank field. “Paste” will pop up and click paste

This will bypass the system.

I give notice to Facebook to all stated here my photos are private; Facebook may not reproduce or use any of them.”

Don’t want to listen to me, listen to her. Or not.

I could rant further but I don’t want to. Punching out…
